The run was a real indicator of the work that lies in front of me between now and and August.

Ran with Andrea this morning, she is training for Fargo marathon in May. I will attempt to achieve a level of running fitness that mirrors Andreas during the next few months. I a hopeful that after her marathon we will be on par to begin the focused training required to complete the Pikes Peak Marathon in August.

We have a lot of miles to put in!

Had planned to run in the gulch today with some MUK friends, one of these friends, Bob suggested that we do a bike ride after the run.  He remembers my blog post that said I would do a triathlon this year.

Last night I got my daughters bike down from hanging in the garage just in case Bob was serious about the ride, luckily she was somewhat serious cyclist her first years at UW and has a very good Cannondale.

I AM NOT A CYCLIST!  I have never even been on a bike that has gears.  So I was very proud of myself when I was able to pump both tires up, not as easy as it sounds, my daughter has a fancy pump featuring to different heads and gauges: Very intimidating.  Then I had to switch the clip-in peddles for regular  ones, no chance in hell I was attempting to be clipped into the bike on my maiden voyage.  It took me about an hour to find my helmet (bought new Christmas 2004 never worn), gloves and biking shorts and pack my running bag like I was preparing myself for an Ironman transition zone.

I loaded the bike and my “transition bag” into the back of the Rav4 and headed to the trail.  The run as pretty hard, I have lost a tremendous amount of fitness, but I am so excited to build back over the spring and summer.

Run climb run ….

March 15th, 2010 at 6:00 pm by Michelle Halsne

Busy at the gym and fight for treadmill space ended up in a run climb run workout.  I did 30 minutes on the treadmill, then switched to the incline step machine for 16 minutes as there was a line waiting for an open treadmill, then got back on a different treadmill for another 15 minutes.

I am estimating the total mileage as running as my heart rate was higher on the incline climber and I was working my uphill muscles.  It was a beautiful day and I should have gone outside running, but my husband and I are in the routine of going to he gym on Mondays and Wednesdays while our youngest daughter is at drum-line practice.

I have a doctor appointment scheduled and some lab work ordered to check my cholesterol and thyroid levels.  Plus my favorite “annual” visit, this means I also see a mammogram in my near future.  I tell my doctor that if I had a lump I would see it as it would surely increase my breast size from a 30 AA to a 30 A.  Yes bra size is like batteries the more As the smaller!  I don’t know how they will even get my tinnie winnie twins on the mammography “shelf”.

Muscle not too sore after long run, but hips a bit achy.  Did 4 + on treadmill then hit the stationary bike and elliptical to round out 65 minutes of cardio.

Long Run

February 13th, 2010 at 8:08 am by Michelle Halsne

was not sure how I would feel doing a longish run after more than 3 weeks of total lack of running focus and desire. As it turns out it was a really nice run. Of course going with my good friend Andrea was key to this being a good versus bad experience. She let me vent and talk most of the 11 plus miles, this is why I say running is cheaper and possibly better than therapy.

We dialed in a comfortable pace and chose a easy route along the Burke Gilman through the UW campus. Muscles not sore from 8 yesterday, but hips a little tight as that 8 was on a treadmill. Drank the pomegranate/blueberry flavor GU2O, totally delicious, will most definitely keep a stock of it on hand.
