So my business trip to London was rescheduled so I could be present for a procedure in Spokane. Doesn’t seem quite like the right trade off, but it was my call and I stand by it.
After staying late at the hospital to make sure everything was ready for the mornings surgery I googled for a local gym. I found OZ fitness, it used to be a 24 hour fitness. Nice gym…hit the treadmill and a few tiny weights.
Subway for dinner and straight to bed. I think I hit my April mileage goal (more than 144 miles) so I won’t have to run on the last day of the month after a long day in the OR and flight back.

While attempting to put base miles in before it is way too late my thirst for speed will not be quenched for a long while. My heart rate skyrocketed when I dropped my pace…. maybe a little fatigued too from soccer… oh well miles logged happy with that.

First game in over 2 years…was awesome. Even scored a goal from the left side and had a second one go off the post. Won the game 5-0, I am playing in the over 40 division and since I am just 40, I am fast compared to other ladies on the field, good for my ego. Great fun and something a little different to add to the running regimen.

Today was my first ever street scramble and it was a complete blast. I ran and my friend Elizabeth roller bladed and navigated. The Seattle street scramble http://www.streetscramble.com/ was held today in the university district it was good that it was in an area we were both comfortable navigating in.
Because we only had 90 minutes and 30 possible stops to gather different point values we had to decide during our 30 minute planning session the best route to collect the most possible points. Elizabeth navigated during the race I never had to look at my map, I just had to run. At one point I was at a 7 minute pace. We were able to make 11 stops on the course, the same as the lead team that beat us in by 2 minutes to take first place. Neither of us care about the competitive aspect, we totally enjoyed the experience and will do it again!

It is definitely spring. I ran at dusk and 2 things my run tell the story of springtime.
1st there is the swarming bugs, I am not sure if they are flies, mosquitoes or gnats but there were patches of these little swarms throughout my run. I took one in my eye, its sill in there, and swallowed one after gagging violently on it.
2nd despite a setting sun and orange skyline, it was cold out. It is the old pacific northwest trick of nature, looks warm out but as soon as the sun sets it darn chilly. I was wishing for my gloves about 3 miles in.
I will be satisfied with this effort tonight, and hope the bug works its way out of my eyeball.

What used to be a easy pace is now taking big effort. I would assume it is a combination and the 31 miles on Sunday and my ongoing battle for health. I have pulled the muscle and cartilage in between my ribs on my left side from coughing so hard. Lord I hope this goes away soon, the antibiotics seemed to help may go back to the clinic tomorrow.
Will be traveling to London later this week and don’t need to go into the high stress, little sleep business trip under the weather.

Got the call to come and sub for an indoor soccer game for my old team. I have not played indoor for a couple years. I had a ball and even scored in our losing effort. It was a good workout for me as short burst of fast running with a lot of lateral movement is good cross training.
I will play an outdoor soccer game on Monday night which I like even better because the games are longer and there is more room to run.

Truth is…. I should not be this sore after yesterdays efforts…but I am. Did the post “marathon” waddle across the bedroom this morning. I knew I had to get a couple miles in.
What a beautiful day, The first 10 minutes were pretty slow and tough. It was a good decision to work it out today. Next step ice cubes in my bath water. My cough is better today. I am on day 3 of 5 for antibiotics, the first time in a decade I have had to resort to antibiotics to kick something. My lungs ”sound like junk” according to the doctor. I am hopeful to make a full recovery, of course he recommend I not run at all, much less than do 50k.
All in the name of training for my dream of completing the WSER100. Watching the the Boston marathon this morning was a huge boost to my ability to get out the door, who wasn’t inspired by US runners Kara Goucher and Ryan Hall.

Perfect day for a long run. This was a good run for where I am fitness level. It was a lot of work today, but I ma glad I put in the hours on my feet. This was not a traditional ultra as far as elevation gain and loss or technical single track so.
I ran the entire way with Brad it was his first ultra and he pulled me along, he could have easily finished 45 minutes in front of me, but he knew I was in need of a pal today. He wasn’t the only first timer out there to today. I was beat by my doctor, she turns 58 tomorrow and looked like she could have kept going. Only in ultras! The course was well stocked with fluids, fuel and volunteers, great job organizers.
