Last run of 2008 & diagnosis on foot

December 30th, 2008 at 7:00 pm by Michelle Halsne

First run in a very long time and the last run I will log for this year.  Ran until the pain at the back of my heel started.

I went to the podiatris yesterday.  He turned out to be a wonderful doctor.  He also understood what my goals were as he is a runner himself and finished the Seattle marathon last month.  So he steered away from giving me the “you run too much” opinion.  So my new is pretty good.

He is 90 percent sure that I have a neuroma on the nerve that runs along the back of my calf down the heel into the foot.  What’s a neuroma? Nerve entrapment. Bad news it probably won’t get any better - good news it probably won’t get any worse.  I only have to deal with varying degrees of pain.  No problem.

Workout:

  • Type: Run
  • Date: 12/30/2008
  • Time: 19:00:00
  • Total Time: 00:38:16.00
  • Calories: 574
  • Distance: 4.5 miles
  • Average Pace: 8:29.92/mile

Going to the foot doctor

Can’t ignore the clicking and discomfort in left Heel.  Will see the DPM tomorrow to access the damage and talk about options.

So it’s already December

How can it be? I tried to launch a running comeback last month as the time is short to begin the real training for the Western States 100. The sad truth is that I am still not recovered. I am on my way to Mexico for a week, this time for pleasure not work. Upon my return I will consult with some physicians again and get a plan in place to heal and train. If this is not handled in the next 4 weeks the possibility of not running next summer is very real and pains me deeply.
