What a disappointment! I was really looking forward to this race after doing the half 2 years ago I was excited to return to the course and better my time as I am in top shape!. Not to be so, 2 weeks before the race the entrants got
Workout:
an email they were changing the course, so there would be no way to compare my times. That was fine if not a little disappointing.
But then the real blow came ….. The lead 100 runners (maybe more), were directed by race and police personnel to take a wrong turn in the FIRST MILE! We all raced up an particularly ugly hill lead men and women alike to be turned around at the top. About 20 of the top runners were not turned around and we saw them later on the course going in the wrong direction….very exhausted and not looking pleased. Even though I was running about 7:15 pace I crossed the mile marker at 12:30 I was totally deflated.
I decided to make it a training run and give up my quest to better my time. I heard there was a similar mistake in the marathon. What a shame. Together with the expensive but unappetizing pre-racemeal I will save my entry fee next year.

Long slow distance was the theme. The last 4 miles of this 22 miler was on hills that made me want to cry. Ran with Andrea today this is her last long run before running Boston in 2 weeks. Good run glad to get the miles in! I am tired this afternoon and my hips are sore.

Met up with my Sarah for a run this morning before heading off to work. Glad to have her company, she pushed me to 9 when I was really ready to stop at 5.

Have to go to Vancouver, BC today to work with a interventional pain doctor/potential customer. This will put me 6-7 hours in the car today depending on my border crossings. So went for a quick run and hope I don’t get too stiff in the car!

What a lovely day….Did a simple 8 miles today, felt really comfortable. Went on my new favorite route with big hills and a combination of soft surfaces and sidewalks. Skipped breakfast and lunch worked right through so I ran a hungry. Good practice for running up 30 hours at Western States to run a little depleted. Downed a Gatorade when I finished (blue my favorite of the Gatorade family) and hustled off to pick up my daughter from school. Jumped back into work this afternoon. The sun is coming through my office windows and it is truly a beautiful site to finely have some sunshine!!! I’ll put my head down for another hour or so of work and then dial into the needs of the family this evening. I am a lucky girl to get a chance to focus on running, work and family in one day…usually one of these suffers when trying to do it all.
