I just signed up for the Las Vegas Half Marathon!

I just registered as part of the Sweat365 Team-training for the Las Vegas Half Marathon. I’ve run 3 half marathons already. My half marathon PR is 1:36:05.

My goals for this event are: Faster than 1:36:05

Wish me luck… or better yet, join me in this adventure by signing up too.

See you there!

Thrills drills hills

Worked with the kids drills today.  High knees, bum kickers, skip for height, skip for distance and fast feet add in a few striders and hills and it was a great success

Playing Games at Practice

September 10th, 2007 at 8:18 am by Michelle Halsne

So far my middle school cross country team has really impressed me.  They for the most part are in great shape for 13-14 years old.

For our Fridays workouts I have decided, based on good advice, to make it a play day.  The kids taught me three new running games.  “Sharks and Minnows” “Capture the Flag” and “Blog”.  They ran as hard playing these games as they would have doing a ladder workout.

First day of Practice

September 6th, 2007 at 7:45 am by Michelle Halsne

I met the kids yesterday, they are a great group!  I have written all my work out plans and have incorporated lots of fun!  First run will be today, I think I have a wide range of talent so it will be challenging in that aspect.

I have been a runner myself since middle school.  It was those first years from 7th to 8th grade that I went from worst girl on the team to best (I was the only one that did not develope  a womanly figure that year, still waiting!).

My daughters school is in desperate need of a coach and at the back to school registration I was approached, “hey you run…wanna coach?”

I do know a lot about running and I do enjoy teenagers, but I don’t know if this is the whole recipe for success.

Here are my fears:

The school serves mostly children from very modest means, there is no money for decent shoes.

Will they laugh when I say time for a fartlek?

Wish me luck and if you have any advice for me please feel free to share, practice starts today

Turning 39 on Labor day, this will be my last run at 38.  I am totally looking forward to 40 already.

Great run with Lisa, she is always so fun to run with!  Thanks Lisa
