Given my age (almost 39) and my lifestyle (busy family and running my one woman company) I don’t believe in “junk” miles. When I put on my running shoes I go out with intention, even if only for a 30 minute run. I believe in “muscle confusion”, meaning I sometimes go to the track and do repeats, the next run up a local trail, then maybe tempo or longer distance. This approach engages all the different muscles throughout the week, so on the mountain at mile 37 there something left. To be honest I think running for 50 miles or for 10 hours is mostly mental….have to be a little crazy.
3 days post race….ankles and feet remarkably swollen, but not painful, must have been the salt tablets. Legs feel tired but not sore. Will rest tomorrow and run Thursday.
Finally took a hot bath last night after cold water soaks every few post race. Added Epsom salt one of my favorite muscle recovery treatments. Soaked the toenails and looked for blisters, to my surprise no blister at all a few sore spots, but seems like I missed a huge bullet on that one. Looks like my only blood shed is were my Ipod shuffle was clipped for the second 25 miles and on my back were my sports bra rubbed me raw.
Overall I will definitely race this distance again, and maybe go for sub 10 hour performance. I have to travel for work tomorrow, sitting on plane and sleeping in a hotel should be interesting.
I decided to compete in the White River 50 mile race yesterday. My time was just under 10 hour 10 minutes (official time not yet posted)Coming off my calf tear, I did not train with this in mind. I had signed up for the race months ago and decided Thursday I would run. It was the USTAF 50 mile championship, the official results are not yet posted, but I think I finished 13th.
I can barely walk today and will no doubt lose at least 2 toenails to this effort, but it is a distance I wanted to conquer and I am very happy with my day.

I love playing soccer, we won the game and had a pretty nice workout too. Legs still have plenty of spring in them, should be able to run again tomorrow.

I am happy and surprised that my legs are not completely trashed after my 9 miles at Cougar Mountain yesterday. Did my favorite 4mile loop and added a hill at the end for “fun”, in my favorite running weather, rain . I am less worried today than last week about finishing the ascent of Pikes Peak

We only had eight players show up. Lots of sprints which helped my legs shake off the Mt Si. lactic acid.

Up and down Mt Si today. Mostly a power walk up, some jaunts in between, took me 1:09 to get up. Controlled tempo down, rolled my left foot once, (a little swollen and briused) some ice for me tonight. 46 minutes down.
Wanted to get a gauge on my ability to finish next months Pike Peak Ascent. Decided it will be gruelling, but doable in about 4:45. Good news for me calf tolerated very well the incline.
